Am I allowed to run for office?

Candidates on university level and on the federal level

The nomination of groups can be submitted 7 weeks before the first election day (19th of may) and by no later than 5 weeks before the last election day (21st of may) to an authorized election commission (university – local election commission, federal level – federal election commission). The nomination has to be submitted by an enlisted letter or in personal. (You can find an exemplary application in appendix 2 and 3 of the HSWO) (§22 HSWO)

The nomination has to include

  1. The name of the mandating group (also possibly the short form of the name)
  2. A list of candidates
  3. The candidates‘ declarations of consent
  4. The name of the authorized recipient
  5. The acceptable number of endorsements ((§27)(§22 HSWO)

The list of candidates has to contain at maximum twice as many persons, as there are mandates for the respective body, to be awarded. Each candidate has to file the following information:

  1. Family name or surname and forename
  2. Year of birth
  3. Address
  4. The name of the course of study
  5. The specific personal identifier of the respective educational institute (Matrikelnummer, Personenkennzahl, Personenkennzeichen etc.)

Furthermore every candidate has to submit the confirmation of its study-permission, continuation to study or the authorization of study-permission, due to indenture.

Every candidate-nomination on the level of your university, has to fulfill a minimum number of endorsements as there are persons entitled to vote:

  • Bodies with more than 100 000 persons entitled to vote, have to submit 200 endorsements.
  • Bodies with more than 30 000 persons entitled to vote, have to submit 150 endorsements
  • Bodies with more than 15 000 persons entitled to vote, have to submit 100 endorsements
  • Bodies with more than 5000 persons entitled to vote, have to submit 50 endorsements
  • Bodies with more than 1000 persons entitled to vote, have to submit 30 endorsements
  • Bodies with more than 500 persons entitled to vote, have to submit 20 endorsements
  • Bodies till 500 persons entitled to vote, have to submit 10 endorsements

The nomination for the election on the federal level needs to contain endorsements of at least  200 persons entitled to vote from at least 7 universities, whereby at least 10 endorsements from each university have to be submitted.

Candidates running as student-representatives

Each candidateship as students-representative can to be submitted  7 weeks before the first election day (19th of may) and no later than 4 weeks before the last election day (21st of may), at an authorized election commission. The nomination has to be submitted by an enlisted letter or in personal (§28 HSWO; You can find an exemplary application in appendix 6 of the HSWO)

The nomination has to include:

  1. Family name or surname and forename
  2. Year of birth
  3. Address
  4. The name of the course of study
  5. The specific personal identifier of the respective educational institute (Matrikelnummer, Personenkennzahl, Personenkennzeichen etc.)

Furthermore every candidate has to submit the confirmation of its study-permission, continuation to study or the authorization of study-permission, due to indenture.
